Meet Artist Katie Lee
Artist Philosophy / Bio for Katherine (Katie) Lobdell Lee I feel at home when I’m outdoors identifying plants, and breathing our mountain air. The aesthetic laws of nature and art often go hand and hand. I’ve combined my love of the two into my pressed glass botanical creations. The botanical displays are my way of bringing, my special day in nature, into the interior design medium. When I was a child I would take long walks in the forest around where I grew up in Pisgah Forest. Picking little bouquets of flowers (often crawling with aphids!) along the way to bring to my neighbors. Some habits never change, and so now minus the bugs, I preserve these plants in a homemade press. I use glass that would get discarded from the local hardware store, and experiment with painting techniques in the arrangement of the botanicals to appease my fine arts heart. Once the look of the piece is finalized I hand solder the edges, very much like in stained glass. Katherine has studied art stateside and abroad, receiving a degree in Fine Arts from Brevard College in 2005. Located in Brevard, North Carolina, her art business focuses on creating beautiful home interiors through faux painting finishes, Trompe l’oeil, and murals. Katherine received her certification in decorative painting from the City & Guilds Institute of London in 1998. She also specializes in decoratively painted furniture and fine art oil and acrylic paintings. Her fine arts work has a strong focus on landscapes and scenery from her beloved home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina.
